CHANGE THE ROOM

I close my eyes and catch a soft-edged glimpse of the little girl sitting at Mama’s grand piano, frantically pressing out notes of a song within me, obedient to the playing even when I had no notion of where those notes would go.

It’s this spontaneity I long for now, not the conversations that everyone else is having but hearts shared like pieces of orange ripped open and divided into juicy carpels of a life’s story, unrehearsed, unplanned, unashamed.

This is how the room changes—not in pretty things strewn about but in the presence of a soul intoxicated with the imperfection of what comes next, with what happens when the heart unfolds.

We work so hard at making our days lovely when the only necessary element is the authenticity of ourselves, open and unafraid of the next sentence not scripted, raw and poured out.

That little girl now woman, sits at her keyboard and presses letters, her heart overflowing with words, like notes on the piano. There exists within each of us a grand story to tell, and yet, amid all the chatter of our minds and mouths, the silence of the heart is deafening.

We are saved by those unlike the others who change the room just by being themselves.

Singular in the songs and stories they write, brave in their relentless pursuit of new territory, they run through acres of unplowed fields far beyond the inroads paved by all the repetition and debate.

Room-changers. Those who pull the invisible, the mystical, into the land of the seen. Those who see what is hidden or missed and point to that rendition of a life.

Have we forgotten or did we ever know that it is the unseen and the unspoken that is Divine?

Divinity. We crave it in others. We want it for ourselves. And yet we look for the mysterious in such obvious places.

There are those who are absorbed by the things of this world—Popularity. Trendsetting. The need to be first, better, right.

And then there are those who elevate all of us by refusing to be like anyone else.
These are the room-changers. The ones who shift the energy, who elevate our humanity.

THERE IS NO TIME TO BE LIKE ANYTHING OR ANYONE BUT SIMPLY AND METICULOUSLY MORE LIKE YOU.

change the conversation. CHANGE THE ROOM. CHANGE your life.
